Teradata FastLoad 14.00

Teradata FastLoad, developed by NCR for the Teradata Database, is a high‑speed bulk loading utility designed to ingest very large data sets into empty tables with minimal elapsed time. It exploits Teradata’s parallel architecture by opening multiple sessions and distributing data across AMPs, using a two‑phase process (acquisition and application) to maximize throughput while minimizing system overhead.

Key capabilities include:

• Rapid, parallel loading from flat files on mainframe and open systems
• Automatic creation of two error tables for detailed diagnostics and easy cleanup
• Checkpoint/restart support to recover from failures without restarting from scratch

FastLoad is optimized for initial loads and large one‑time or periodic refreshes of staging and production tables. To achieve its speed, it imposes certain constraints: the target table must be empty, and secondary indexes, triggers, and referential integrity constraints cannot be present during the load. FastLoad supports inserts only; updates and deletes are handled by other Teradata utilities.

While many modern workflows use the Teradata Parallel Transporter (TPT) Load operator, FastLoad remains a dependable, streamlined choice for fast, large‑scale initial table loads on Teradata.
